As a React Native Developer at Newtopia, I was centrally responsible for the development, enhancement, and maintenance of the core mobile application, which serves over 20,000 participants in a chronic disease risk reduction program. This platform is designed to facilitate sustainable habit change by guiding individuals toward healthier, lifelong routines. My primary technical focus involved writing, modifying, and testing JavaScript code for the Android and iOS mobile applications, ensuring a robust and well-structured front-end architecture.
I successfully implemented significant new features, including the New Goals Page, Program Materials section, and the My Health Journey view, alongside numerous critical UI enhancements for future releases. My technical contributions included integrating Redux for a truly reactive user experience, managing the synchronization between local and remote databases, implementing effective push notifications, and performing continuous application monitoring. Furthermore, I was instrumental in integrating the application with Salesforce, occasionally creating or modifying APIs using the Salesforce CLI. My responsibilities required close collaboration with the development, product, graphic design, and QA teams to deliver a bug-free, smooth user interface.
A paramount aspect of my role was ensuring inclusivity and a seamless user experience for participants, many of whom have disabilities. I meticulously ensured adherence to AA accessibility standards and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), validating that features like VoiceOver functioned perfectly. Beyond coding, I introduced Newtopia to Figma for UI/UX design, creating an integrated UI plan for new features such as the Dashboard and Coaching Portal. This initiative was highly valued by the Product team as it introduced new design patterns, fostered a better code architecture, and significantly expedited the overall development process.
