• I stepped up as the Mobile Lead of the “Growtatos” pod to align our next-generation technical architecture with aggressive e-commerce growth targets. We architected and delivered a robust React Native application for the Weigh Loss by Gina platform, designed to engage and scale with a global user base. The app provides a comprehensive suite of features, allowing users to accurately track their weight, water intake, and food consumption, maintain a daily journal, access an extensive content library, and manage multiple program memberships and in-app purchases. A core requirement of the platform was handling intricate logic for different time zones to ensure accurate scheduling and data logging. We integrated a reliable dual video playback system, utilizing both a custom-developed video player component and an integrated YouTube Player for enhanced playback reliability. Through close collaboration with the client, this successful platform scaled rapidly from zero to over 75,000 users while maintaining an exceptional user rating of 4.9 on both the App Store and Google Play.

Our team expertly navigated and resolved numerous complex technical challenges. We addressed critical timezone discrepancies and developed strategies to optimize video storage and prevent excessive billing on Firebase Storage. A significant undertaking was the execution of a seamless migration involving millions of data collections using Google App Engine functions. Furthermore, we implemented complex data queries and utilized BigQuery and Firebase Query Builder to generate comprehensive CSV reports for Product Managers. We also integrated Algolia Instant Search for a superior content discovery experience. Throughout the development lifecycle, we strictly adhered to AA accessibility standards and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), ensuring inclusivity and providing a seamless user experience for individuals with disabilities.

By analyzing your agency’s customer data, Renaissance’s Agency Growth Partners identify new revenue opportunities, leading to an average commission increase of $50K.

The complications that we encountered with developing this app were upgrading React-Native to the latest version, upgrading and using the Realm database for caching the user data and different agencies’ data, calling APIs and web services using Axios, and maintaining a great user experience with context state management instead of using Redux, which led me to consider React-Query later on and completely change the architecture and the way we handled caching.
